• I am having some URl issues with WordPress Basically i have different categories and for some reason whenever I have posts with exact same title…even though in “different” categories…I still have WordPress change the URl and adds like -#…where # stands for duplicate number.

like I can have links like gateway, gateway-2, gateway-3 and so on…WordPress automatically appends those numbers because they have same title…but they are all in different categories…so I need help here please….what can I do to stop wordpress from doing this and use the exact title since they are in different categories?

    Thanks.

  • “gateway, gateway-2, gateway-3” is called the slug. As it is the URI, it needs to be unique. The Title and slug can be edited at post time or later. The slug is what appears in the browser as the URI and the Title is shown at the top of the post. Not sure why you would want multiple posts with same name…a search on your site would pull up both and that could be confusing, not to mention SEO.

Also, a post contains a category, a category is a list of posts. So, it’s not like a menu structure or hierarchy where one has
    cat1 post a
    and
    cat2 post a

Also, to get the same post to appear in both categories, just add both categories when posting. A post can have multiple categories.
