    Hi,
I am having trouble with my website URL:
In GSC all the indexed pages contain an additional (unwanted) slug-level: They contain the word “Startseite” (german for “startpage”) for all my german pages, and /en/cimoio-english/” for the english translations.
I read through the following links:
    Removing Homepage Slug
    Mad with slug
    Homepage slug on Google
But I have the feeling neither is answering my issue.

I am using wordpress with DIVI theme, Polylang and Yoast – and at the moment I am not sure, which plug-in is causing this issue.
I followed the description in “Removing homepage slug” by putting my german version of my startpage in the “Settings>Reading for ‘Your Home Page Displays’” – but the “Startseite”-part and the /en/english-cimoio/ of the slug still is there.

Currently my sitemap for sites looks like this:

    URL
    https://www.cimoio.de/cms/
    https://www.cimoio.de/cms/startseite/unsere-kunden/luftfahrt/
    https://www.cimoio.de/cms/startseite/unsere-kunden/bildungsanbieter/
    https://www.cimoio.de/cms/en/cimoio-english/data-privacy-statement/

    Can anyone advise?

    Hello Larsstl,

Thanks for reaching out regarding your slug.

You mentioned that you have set the German version as the static homepage for the site in WordPress > Settings > Reading. To clarify, is https://www.cimoio.de/cms/ correct as the German homepage which you will like to see?

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hello Maybellyne,
thank you for your quick reaction.
    Yes, that is absolutely right.
However, that URL is represented by a wordpress site that carries a different “name” if that is of any relevance?
And I just now realize, that it may very well be my own fault and a “works as designed” mistake.
In the Yoast SEO-block, I inserted “startseite” as a value in the “permalink” field. Is that the mistake I made?

Ok, a little testing later: so the permalink of my start page becomes a default-part of my URL-structure.
Is there a way I can “delete” or rather “suppress” this behaviour?

    Thanks for following up.

You mentioned that you inserted “startseite” as a value in the permalink field. Can you share a screenshot of that, please? Also, if you remove that word from the permalink field, does it resolve the issue?

You can use any image-sharing service like https://pasteboard.co/, https://snag.gy/, https://imgur.com/, https://snipboard.io/, or even upload the screenshot to your own website. Once you upload it to an image sharing service, please share the link to the image here.

    Hello Maybellyne,
    thank you for the reply.
So, I deleted the “Startseite” from the permalink field and it was immediately and automatically filled with the name of the page I created in wordpress.

Here the image: Screenshot of Yoast in backend

The name of the page is currently “cimoio DE” – and this page-name is now included in all URLs.
However, I think I just now found out about a fundamentally important functionality of wordpress itself:
To mirror my menu-structure, I used the wordpress functionality “page attributes” to order my pages the same way I ordered my menue. And that is, what causes this structure – not any of my plug-ins.
So: case solved – thank you very much for helping me chase this “works-as-designed-just-read-the-manual”-bug.
