  • hello,
I have a domain (that is registered with a different provider than my hosting) and I would like that URL to forward to my WordPress site. Right now, obviously it is just IP.address/~username and I would like it to be http://www.MyDomainGoesHere.com with all of my pages working with that domain (MyDomainGoesHere.com/about, MyDomainGoesHere.com/Links, etc.). I followed these instructions before: http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory but they really didn’t help and I ended up screwing some things up.
My website is hosted through Bluehost.com.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

  • Actually if you’ve already installed WP on the hosting domain, they should have directions on how to point the domain name to your hsoting.

Most of the time, it’s as simple as using their name servers.

I am able to point my domain to my WordPress site, but it still displays the IPaddress in the browser. I want it to always show my domain.

You’re basically moving WP to a new domain name 🙂

    I’m still a little confused…
Do I necessarily have to move everything just to display a different domain? I’ve got my own domain name, and I’ve got my WordPress hosted and ready for public viewing. Is there a way to just forward my domain to my WordPress location without displaying my IP address in the browser bar?
I’m hesitant to start moving stuff around before I know exactly what I’m doing.

    Thanks again,
    KF

You get it through cpanel from your web hoster if your domain is purchase through a difference host by input the dns / ip address.
