[Resolved] [Urgent] Unable to Restore from Backup

  • My WordPress site had been using this plugin which seemed to do a great task of automatic backup. The free 100 MB was more than enough for me. But today a developer told me that I learned my lesson the hard way by using this backup technology now that my site has been hacked and database messed with.

I downloaded all the latest backup which includes filesystem and database. File system seems to be up-to-date, but I’m unable to restore from the database sql file.

On my web server, I get the following error when attempting to upload the sql file via phpmyadmin import (allowed file size is 64 MB and my backup file’s size is barely 5 MB):

No data was received to import. Either no file name was submitted, or the file size exceeded the maximum size permitted by your PHP configuration.

Then I tried to decompress the sql file by attempting to upload it to localhost/phpmyadmin and this gives me the following error:

    INSERT INTO wp_postmeta(meta_id,post_id,meta_key,meta_value) VALUES (25563,1035,'_feedback_author_url','http://www.acunetix.com'), (25564,1035,'_feedback_subject','AndroidKothon Contact Form Feedback'), (25565,1035,'_feedback_ip','203.223.95.195'), (25566,1035,'_feedback_contact_form_url','http://www.androidkothon.com/contact'), (25567,1035,'_feedback_all_fields','a:4:{s:4:\"Name\";s:8:\"jeymljfs\";s:5:\"Email\";s:16:\"sample@email.tst\";s:7:\"Website\";s:23:\"http://www.acunetix.com\";s:7:\"Comment\";s:18:\"//www.acunetix.tst\";}'), (25568,1035,'_feedback_extra_fields','a:0:{}'), (25569,1035,'_feedback_akismet_values','a:42:{s:14:\"comment_author\";s:8:\"jeymljfs\";s:20:\"comment_author_email\";s:16:\"sample@email.tst\";s:18:\"comment_author_url\";s:23:\"http://www.acunetix.com\";s:20:\"contact_form_subject\";s:35:\"AndroidKothon Contact Form Feedback\";s:17:\"comment_author_IP\";s:14:\"203.223.95.195\";s:15:\"comment_content\";s:18:\"//www.acunetix.tst\";s:12:\"comment_t[...]

Can anyone help me what to do now? If this backup is not working, I’m going to lose a lot of latest posts and it’s going to be my worst experience ever trusting a backup method.

    Hi,

I’ll investigate the issue and see why this happened but the error looks certainly fixable.
Can you email the backup to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk?

I can get it fixed today.

It should just need quotes around that 1e309 wherever it is.

    Hi Jason,

I’m uploading the file as of now and will send it shortly. Make sure aminulislam333[at]gmail.com is not in spam.

    Thanks for the prompt response.

    Hi aisajib,

We’ve made the necessary adjustments to prevent this kind of problem permanently in our alpha build internally. The issue is reproduced and some test data created to ensure it is accounted for properly during testing. It’s going through this testing at the moment and we’re hoping to release 2.2.14 at the end of the week or beginning of next week.

If you can email the backup file to us as mentioned I can add in the quotes around those numbers for you.

It’s a simple case of the plugin saw 1e309 as a number and stored it as such since PHP said it was a number. But it’s way out of range of what PHP or MySQL can actual store as a number, thus the error.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hi aisajib,

The fixed file should be on it’s way back to you now.
    Apologies for the inconvenience.

As mentioned in the email I tested restoring it after we’d fixed the 1e309 entry and it restored perfectly, but do let us know if there are any problems.

    Kind Regards,

    Jason

Thanks for the outstanding support! It’s working nice. By the way, when do you think the plugin will be updated? Until it is updated, I don’t feel secure. You know why.

Also, how can I increase the limit of 100Mb per blog? There are no pricing stated on your site.

    Hi,

You are very welcome and we appreciate the positive feedback 🙂 I’ll summarise my email back to you below so it’s here for reference:

Unfortunately, we do not offer any paid services for the plugin. However, if you email your username for wordpress.backup-technology.com to support “at” backup-technology.co.uk we can normally increase the quota, at our discretion of course.

You can download the fixed version here:
    https://wordpress.backup-technology.com/wponlinebackup-438.zip

It has passed all the testing we do and is just waiting for a release decision.

    Regards,

    Jason

    Hi Michael

I think you have a different issue. Can you raise a new topic please and explain your problem as I’m not sure what you mean by “can’t retrieve my backup because file is too large”. What is telling you this and when/how?

    Jason
