Support » Fixing WordPress » URGENT: Media Library not reading images!

  • Hi!
I recently made a backup version of my site and temporarily pointed my domain to that (root folder), then moved the domain back to the original site (root folder).

But somewhere in there, my images disappeared from my media library. I can still see them in the uploads folder for that site (and the backup site) under /(root folder)/wp-content/uploads, in folders for months and days, like usual. But I can see them on the site.

Since losing the images, I did a test upload of a new photo, and I can see it there among the old ones in FTP–and that one new image IS showing in the media library (it’s the only one there), but even that isn’t visible on the site.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Is it a permissions issue? I am using WooCommerce, with a theme called The Retailer, and all my plugins are up to date. I have also deactivated and reactivated all my plugins, one at a time.

I am not a coder at all, so I’m really hoping for a solution that doesn’t involve finding a .php file somewhere and pasting in or changing code. I will most likely really screw that up.

    Any ideas? Thanks!!

One or the other can be your server account’s root folder, but not both. So, you made a site backup in a sub-folder and re-pointed to that, then re-pointed back to root, yes? Also, where did you do that re-pointing?

If you did the re-pointing in exactly the same way each time, I do not know what to think there.

Your images need to be re-registered in your database, and you can do that with the Add From Server plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/add-from-server/
note: Use “Current Time” and not “File Time”.

That might not make all your links work again, but it *will* get those images back in at your Media Library.
note: Only select the original images and not the thumbnail extras or else you will have more images there of various sizes than you can stand!
