Right now Jetpack does add the Twitter Card meta but images don’t show in timeline on twitter unless you expand the tweet. To increase engagement we have been manually adding the link to twitter uploaded photos to our tweets.

I would like to have jetpack automatically upload the featured image to the sites twitter account and then take the url returned and add it to the tweet so the photo auto-posts with publicize. Is this possible?

    Jetpack Mechanic 🚀

I’m afraid that’s not possible. Twitter Cards were designed to add meta data to your tweets. Uploading an image alongside a tweet is certainly possible, but it’s also a way to hack around Twitter’s way of displaying Twitter Cards to game the system.

If everyone were to start adding images to their tweets, Twitter feeds would become quite messy and it would be impossible to distinguish image tweets from links. If we added that option to Jetpack, it’s also possible that Twitter would start hiding all images from Tweets posted by Publicize to make Twitter feeds more readable.

Instead, I would recommend that you post in the Twitter developer forums and suggest that Twitter Cards should be expanded by default, for example:

    I hope this helps.
