Uploading Large Files

  • joelg

I’d like to give my authors the ability to upload large files, but WP 1.2 chokes on them. I have:
    – created a directory called “..\misc-files” with the appropriate permissions. Files under 500K seem to upload just fine.
    – Changed the maximum KB to upload in wordpress to 2048K
    – Seen that the maximum file uploads on PHP itself is 2M.
Any file over 500K or so causes WP to display the IE “Page Cannot Be Found” screen when pressing the “upload” button displayed by upload.php.
Any ideas? My authors want a file repository. They will be uploading .xls, .doc, .ppt, etc. files, not just images. If there’s an appropriate plug-in, I’d use that.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Sounds like your server is timing out the connection because it’s taking too long to upload the files. My mind is blanking on whether you’ll need to check your php.ini or httpd.conf for that.

Or you could just contact your hosting provider.

how do you change this php.ini
    where is it?

Is there a feature in WP wherein we can convert a text file to corresponding post for the Weblog.
    Any ideas?
    Anticipating ur help.
