Uploading image problem

I’m currently unable to insert images into my WordPress posts. After uploading an image, the thumbnail comes out blank. When I go to edit the picture, it is clearly visible. Yet when I insert it into a post the image it is again blank.

This is probably something very simple, so I was wondering if anyone here recognised the problem or had any ideas about what might be going wrong.
