  • It doesn’t seem to be possible but I would like to confirm this. On blogs, for many themes you can simply upload and easily crop an image header. I bought a domain and hosting to host a WP blog and was disappointed to find that these options do not seem to be available when you are hosting your own WP blog. Are the options supposed to be available? Is there a way to make these options available?

  • For self-hosted blogs, you don’t need an online image cropper. The folks had to write it b/c their users don’t have FTP access. But on a self-hosted blog, you do have FTP access.

On self-hosted WP, use these steps:

First, open up your theme’s directory and figure out which image file you want to replace. Then, create your new image. To finish, overwrite the original theme’s image with your new image. Done.

Incidentally, some themes do come with a header image editor like you see at, but not all themes do.

You can get a number of different themes from the “WordPress Rocks” blog owned by Sadish Bala. He has a number of free and premium themes available with the “custom image header” interface within the “design” mode. It’s a simple process for everyone, you don’t need FTP, as my users don’t, no one has to alter HTML or CSS…nada.

We haven’t had any problems with them at all. Just a heads up for folks that are looking for something like that.
