Uploading Backed up files

  • Hi,

I’m trying to upload a backed up wordpress website using an ftp client and uploading it to a new installation of wordpress. However every time I upload and try to view it says error connecting to database. Firstly is it possible to do this? if so, what do i need to do? I’m sure I will have to change some scripting or file names but not sure which ones to make it compatible

    Thanks

  • To correctly back up a WordPress site, you must back up both the Files and the WordPress database. Likewise, to recover a broken WordPress site, you must recover both Files and Database.

However, your “error connecting to database” problem sounds more like incorrect values in wp-config.php.

Besides uploading the backed-up wordpress folder , you would also need to upload the “backed-up” SQL database.

However every time I upload and try to view it says error connecting to database.

You may need adit your wp-config.php file with correct database info.
