 * Does anyone know why my uploaded files are not consistently appearing in my “
uploads” directory? I uploaded a few pictures using FTP, adding them to my current
09/07 directory. They appear to upload fine in the FTP client but in wordpress
they disappear! I reloaded everything and the same thing happened.
 * Also, why won’t WP allow me to upload an MP3 file? I want to use the “this.player”
plug-in but I ran into the same disappearing file issue again

 * From the Wp admin > Write post subpanel you can see only files uploaded via that
interface. WP is not aware of files uploaded via FTP. Of course, you can insert
them into a post, provided you know the exact path/filename.
 * WP will allow you to upload mp3 files – however, the size might be an issue.

 * Now I’m really confused. If WordPress is not aware of any files uploaded via
FTP how does it recognize the templates, plug-ins and other images that I uploaded
in this way? And please, how am I supposed to be doing it?
 * I’m really sorry if I sound dumb, but when it comes to this stuff I am.
    Thanks
   for your help! Kathie

 * Don’t mix everything!
We were talking about files like images, mp3 (or pdf etc.)
that are **included** in posts. We did NOT talk about WP core files or template
   files or plugins!
 * “Uploading” – the title of your post – in WP terms refers mainly to the media
files uploaded via the Write Post subpanel’s upload utility. WP keeps track of
those files (and only of those!) and their data in the database.
    There is nothing
confusing about it: if the file has been uploaded via WP’s own interface – you
can see them in the admin interface; otherwise you can not. And the whole issue
has nothing to do with themes, plugins or WP core files, which are always uploaded
by ftp but you never “include” them into a post.
