Upload one sized image, but file manager shows many different sizes (4 posts)

    Hi,

I have just installed WP and uploaded 183 .jpg images.

But when I look in File Manager of my cPanel I see that most images have been uploaded many times.

    Eg. I uploaded greenpark.jpg

    But File Manager now shows:-
    greenpark-100x100.jpg
    greenpark-150x150.jpg
    greenpark-195x130.jph
    greenpark-300x225.jpg
    greenpark-640x235.jpg
    greenpark-75x75.jpg
    greenpark-800x198.jpg
    greenpark-1.jpg

Why does this happen when there is only one file to upload?

How can I stop this from happening? Obviously, the amount of space used in File Manager is much more with these unecessary extra images.

    Thanks,

    Paul

By default WordPress creates three more image sizes.

You can delete the unused images using this plugin:

I hope you have backups. If not backup your site first so that you can restore from backup if you accidentally delete wanted items.

    Dear Krishna,

Thanks very much for your informative reply.

I use many 'medium' size photos on my Pages and so I now understand that these different sizes would probably be useful.

I also use Nextgen for Galleries on some of my Pages. Hopefully, this will not result in too much duplication of images?

    Kind regards,

    Paul

Not much problems unless you have shortage of storage space. And as you said, you may be using those images too. However, if you find it a real problem in the future, you can delete the unused images.
