• hi,

i am having some major issues trying to upload an mp4 to my wp theme.

i need to have the video for my landing page on the server just for teh landing page so it works with the theme.

i can upload the video but it is not playing back, in firefox i am getting a “Error loading this resource” message and in Chrome i am getting audio playback but no video.

i have updated all version of wordpress and also all logins but cant find away around this,

server side i have also increased all my upload limits.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

Go to the Media section of your Dashboard, edit the file, and copy the “File URL” that appears, it will probably end in .mp4.

Take that URL, and try to visit the URL in a Firefox Private Browsing window and Chrome Incognito window (so your previous cache doesn’t affect it).

If you see the same problem at just the video, then the problem is with the video itself, and I recommend trying to re-export it from the source.

If viewing the video directly from the re-exported version still doesn’t work, http://www.mirovideoconverter.com/ is a great way to quickly generate an MP4 file that most browsers can play. Simply drag the original file into the app, and choose Format -> Video -> MP4.

I ran into the same problem. I had converted my “AVI” file to mp4 and got this error.

After reading the above, I tried going to the “miro” link but it is no more or broken, so I re-converted my file using Handbrake.

Did the trick. Uploaded the resulting mp4 file to WordPress and it worked!

Thanks for getting me thinking in the right direction for a solution.

That is a shame about Miro, thanks for letting me know.

Handbrake is a good alternative, and I’m glad to see they finally offer Windows and Linux builds too, it used to be Mac-only. 🙂

I get this too when embedding a video using Chrome but using Edge it seems to work on my computer but other users report that it does not work for them. How can this be debugged?

It can be fixed by re-encoding the video following the suggestion above.
