    Hi everyone

Each time I try to upload an image appears the following: It doesn’t look like you can use the file upload feature at this time because the directory you have specified (./../wp-content//) doesn’t appear to be writable by WordPress. Check the permissions on the directory and for typos.

Could please anyone tell me how to me writable the directory?

PS: I’m afraid I don’t have any programming knowledge, we contacted a blog service with a developer that never want to help and there is a lot still to do, so we hope the wordpress community could help us!

    Thank you

  • If you have the ftp login information, use a ftp client (I use Filezilla) and you can change it that way (change permissions to 777 for the ‘uploads’ directory).

If you have shell access, cd to wp-content/ and do a chmod 777 ./uploads (for example).

If you don’t have those, chase after the ‘developer’ with a 2×4 whilst screaming.

    thanks, yosemite

i do have ftp access (though the “developer” set it up after three months chasing him), then i go to the uploads folder, get info and see the following:

    owner: 1849
    group: 100
    octal: 745

i’ve written 777 twice, once replacing 745, and the other replacing 1849. first one didn’t work and second one appears to be blocked, which is the one i should change?

    thanks

octal: Should be 777 for that directory. If it won’t change, you’re not the owner. Sometimes you can get around this by using the host-provided control panel (file manager), if you have one…

And to figure out the owner, upload a ‘new’ file (a small txt file, any name) with your ftp client and then note the owner/group number(s) of that new file. Thats you ;’) But, you’re kinda stuck with whatever your host does there, so it’s really just informational.

right, i’ll give them a call, but I really know what he’s gonna do -“i’ll take a look at it”, and then forget-

with your post, you gave me a better service than this guy in months, thanks?

PS: wouldn’t you be available for hire? 🙂

    You’re welcome!
