Support » Fixing WordPress » Upload Folder Permissions on IIS

  • I have WordPress 4.8.1 installed on Windows 2012 R2 with IIS on a windows domain. Everything runs great with the exception of media uploads. I can upload images just fine but after they are uploaded I cannot view them. I checked the permissions on the images and found that they weren’t set correctly, so I added Domain Users with read permissions to the upload folder and set inheritance so the permissions would trickle down to the files. This fixed the issue of viewing the images but it never works for new images. below are the permissions I have set. If someone can look at it and help me out with what I’m doing wrong I would appreciate it.

    —–Upload Folder—–
    IUSR – Modify
    System – Full
    Domain Users – Read
    IIS_IUSRS – Read
    Server\Administrator – Full
    Server\Users – Read

    —–Permissions of newly uploaded image——-
    System – Full
    Server\Administrator – Full
    IIS_IUSRS – Read

    Update….
I was continuing to check the permissions and found something interesting. When an image is uploaded, the permissions on that image are not set correctly and follow the permission scheme from my post. WordPress takes the image and creates 3 different sized versions of the image – these 3 versions have the correct permissions which are inherited from the Uploads folder. So it looks like only the original image is problematic with permissions. Hopefully this makes sense. If not I will try to clarify further.

    Thanks
