Support » Fixing WordPress » upload error with chmod at anything other than 777

  • I have been running my blog without problem the last two weeks. Since yesterday I have been getting the dreaded header already sent error and can not move to the upload directory. I have tried 777 and then switching it back. Nothing but 777 works, which is unacceptable.
    At 776, I get a slight modification in the error

    Warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: Stat failed for public_html/wp-content/uploads/2007 (errno=13 - Permission denied) in public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1069

    Unable to create directory public_html/wp-content/uploads/2007/07. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    At 776 it is definitely writeable by the server. All folders from content on down are set at this. I am absolutely clueless as to why this suddenly happened. The only thing new was the Google site map plugin and I have tried deactivating it and am still getting errors.
    You can see the blog at http://www.goldendoodle-service.com. Earlier posts were done with the upload from the post page. The newer ones I hand coded to just get some pics in there but it took way too long to do it that way.

    Any assistance is appreciated.
