# Upgrading very old version

 * I have a WordPress.org blog that has to be at least 2 years old. I want to upgrade
   this to the newest version but there is no simple “upgrade” button like the newer
   versions. I have many audio and video files as well as written blogs that I would
   need to transfer as well. My site is hosted by a third party company and I have
   an FTP site where all the content is stored. How should I go about upgrading?
   I’m scared that I’ll lose all my data? Any thoughts?

 * Back up your data– database and all of your files. Download them all to your 
   home computer. You can always recreate from these files if things go bad.
 * Do not try to upgrade directly to the current version from a two year old system.
   Go to the WP Release archive and get the next version up from the one that you
   have. If you have version 2.0, then download version 2.1. Upgrade. Then get 2.2.
   Upgrade. And so on. You should be able to go from 2.7 to 2.8.4. Sorry. Tedious
   process but browse the forums a bit and you’ll see that problems occur when you
   try to jump too many releases.
