I just updated wordpress to version 5.4. Before the update, everything was working fine. All pages and posts were viewable and editable. Now, after the update, when attempting to edit any page i get the following error:

The editor has encountered an unexpected error. Attempt Recovery. Copy Post Text. Copy Error

The following is the output when clicking the “copy Error” button:

TypeError: Cannot read property 'DotTip' of undefined

        at ph (
        at lh (
        at O (
        at ze (
        at unstable_runWithPriority (
        at Ma (
        at mg (

I have full access to my server as this is a self hosted site. Could anyone please help explain what this means, how to debug it, and how to get my wordpress pages up and running and accessible again with the new version of wordpress (v5.4)? Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and switch to the default Twenty Twenty theme. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of the problem.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Hey James, thank you for the response. So I built a custom plugin using this tutorial from You are correct in that disabling this custom built plugin indeed got my site back up and running again. That being said, I would like to get this custom plugin working again as it includes many optimizations. Do you have any recommendations for debugging this plugin?

I’d recommend waiting to see what the developer says.

Meanwhile, have you considered just using something already done (and supported) like instead?

Ok I will wait things out then. In the meantime I will try out the listed plugin. Thank you so much James!
