Support » Installing WordPress » Upgrading to WordPress Question

  • I have a website that I have built using ImageCafe(I am obviously a beginner). I have since ugraded my website package to a hosting package and have gained ftp support. I want to use wordpress to build my site, but I want to make sure that when I install (or I install4free) that my existing webpage will not be deleted. How does this work, I will want to keep my old page information. Any suggestions or tips?

  • Do you want to eventually replace your old site with the new WordPress installation? Or do you want to maintain them separately?

WordPress doesn’t delete anything. I am on the install4free team and we don’t delete anything. Any info on your server will still be on your server after the install.
Even if you wanted WordPress in the root of your site. WP uses an index.php, so if you had an index.html or another index.php, we would simply rename the file to something like oldindex.html and you would still have the file and info available to you.
Only you can delete your files/info.
