Sorry if this is a bit generic, but didn’t know exactly where to put it.

Using 3.0.5 – trying to upgrade several plugins and also upgrading WP to WP 3.1. After upgrading successfully either via Auto update or manually, My WP Admin still says I have older versions. Here’s a plugin example.

First, I disabled the plugin. Went through Auto update to upgrade from 2.5.1 to 2.5.3. It appears to work. No Errors > Update success message. Go to Main Dash or Return to plugins list. These pages both still say that I have v2.5.1 installed. Hit refresh on the Browser/session. switched browsers. checked in IE and Chrome. Regardless, WP Dash still says I’m using 2.5.1 and that the plugin needs updating.

So I next tried manual upgrading. I deleting the plugin’s folder/files on my host copied across the 2.5.3. WP Dash > Plugins page is still showing the version as 2.5.1.

Uninstalled the plugin – First automatically. I checked that the folder had definitely been deleted on the server. It had. The plugin was uninstalled. Again, WP Dash > Plugins page is still it as installed with v2.5.1.

Then I manually installed the newer version of the plugin – WP Dash > Plugins page is still showing the version as 2.5.1.

I could even activate the new version. Of course WP is telling me the version is old still.

    Get my drift?

I’ve had the exact same issue when trying to upgrade the Broken Link Checker plugin from v1.2.2 to 1.2.4

And I’ve tried auto-updating WP from 3.0.5 to 3.1 with the same results. I haven’t tried manually upgrading that.

    Any help appreciated!

  • First, I disabled the plugin.

Was this required by the plugin? Most auto updates are done with the plugin enabled.

http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_a_Plugin Scroll down to standard plugin information. After looking at that check your plugin for version number.

And/or the standard test. Disable all plugins, bring them back one at a time to see which one is messing you up. If still no go change to ten twenty theme and do the same.

Thank you very much for your reply.

The wordpress upgrade page suggests that if you are going to upgrade WP (which I have been trying to do) it might be a good idea to disable all the plugins while you upgrade.

That was the first upgrade I tried to complete. WP from 3.0.3 to 3.1.

Also, all the plugins I have manually or auto upgraded, all show their newer versions if I look at the readme text files on the server.

It is only within the Browser (WP Admin) that they show the earlier version.

I also tried installing a new plugin this morning. I did it via the automatic install. After WP Admin told me the plugin had been successfuly installed, I logged into the server. The new plugin folder/files are in the WP-Content/Plugins folder as I expected them to be. Yet, WP Admin > Plugins list does not show the new plugin. There were 11 plugins installed before I installed this new one, And now, it still shows 11 plugins.

And I also have disabled all the plugins and brought them up one by one. That didn’t change anything.

I did the same with the theme (I’m using TwentyTen). No joy there.

So all the plugins are activated and working except for the new one installed this morning?

It sounds like your upgrade missed something. I would delete the folders wp-admin and wp-includes from the server. FTP fresh copies of these folders to the server. DO NOT delete the wp-content folder or the config.php file or .htaccess if you have one.

What is the URL of your site? Have you validated your code and corrected errors (here)?

Could you list the plugins you are using including the one that does not show up on the plugins list.

Correct. They all work, so long as I installed them a while ago. It’s just that regardless of whether they are active or deactivated, WP Admin still says I’m running older versions and that the plugins need upgrading.

The plugins I have that are activated and working are:

    Akismet v2.5.3
    Broken Link Checker
    Fast Secure Contact Form
Google Analyticator – this I upgraded in the last 48 hours and is the ONLY plugin that WP admin recognises as up to date
    NextGEN Gallery
    Tweet This
    Twitter Widget Pro
    Wickett Twitter Widget
    WordPress Database Backup
    WPtouch
    YOURLS: WordPress to Twitter

The one I installed yesterday morning is Share-This – It’s not activatyed becuase after I installed it, and it gave me the install sccess message, I dind’t clcik on “Activatye” I just clicked “return to plugins list. Since it’s not showing up in this list, I can’t actcvate it now. This is the only installed plugin that can’t be seen via WP Admin plugins list.

At present, my Web Host is going to have a look to see if he can’t figure if it’s caching somewhere down the pipe. But If his efforts don’t yeild any results, I’ll try deleting wp-admin and wp-includes.

After much too’ing & fro’ing, it turns out it was partially a problem at my end and partially a problem at my web host.

Thank you for your responses though. I do appreciate the effort in trying to help me out.
