 * Hello,
 * I am getting the following message in my health status: [https://snipboard.io/YCjXbo.jpg](https://snipboard.io/YCjXbo.jpg)
 * It says to use SQL SERVER maria (upgrade to 10.4). I am currently using 10.1
   and have contacted my server host about this. They told me I need to make sure
   that it’s compatible with the site first.
 * “You can change the version of the database but please be informed that once
   you change the version, you won’t be able to downgrade it. So, if anything breaks,
   you will not be able to revert it.
 * You need to make sure that its compatible with the site first”
 * How can I check if it’s compatible with the site? WordPress is telling me up
   upgrade it to 10.4, my server host is worrying me about doing it and making it
   sound that if i upgrade it can break my site and I can’t revert it.
 * What can I do here?

 * Your host may not really be “worried”, per se that 10.4 may be incompatible with
   WordPress. They likely don’t even know what software or software version runs
   your site 😀 … unless they only host WordPress sites.
 * They’re simply giving you **general “best-practice” advice** to ensure the new
   version MySQL version will work with whatever software you’re running, be it
   WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, or even your personal computer.
 * If WordPress suggests you upgrade to a particular version of software it needs,
   then you can rest assured it’s been tested to be compatible. The [requirements page](https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/)
   says **_minimum_** 10.3, so you should be fine with 10.4.
 * But whatever the case, **ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS (enough?) do a FULL SITE BACKP,**
   and download a copy to your local computer and/or it elsewhere online… before
   you ever make any major change on your site. Again, this is general “best-practice”
   advice.
 * Good luck!
