 * Hey Guy’s,
    I am attempting to upgrade from 2.8.5 to the latest version. I click
   on the “WordPress 2.8.6 is available! Please update now.” url, but nothing happens.
   The activity screen simply goes blank.
 * any ideas?

 * I am unable to even install new plugins…The screen just stops at downloading
   install packages.

 * Try adding `AddType x-mapp-php5 .php` to the top of the .htaccess file in your
   WP root folder.

 * esmi,
    Here is the message that I get after following these instructions:
 * Internal Server Error
    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration
   and was unable to complete your request.
 * Please contact the server administrator, [webadmin@kundenserver.de](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/upgrading-problems-3/webadmin@kundenserver.de?output_format=md)
   and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
   that may have caused the error.
 * More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
 * Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying
   to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
 * Did you mean to have the space after the php5?

 * Sorry esmi,
    I redid the .htaccess file with the exact command that you gave
   me (space included) and everything worked perfectly.
 * Can you explain to me what this command does and why the space?

 * Sorry – I should have specified that it needs to be on a line by itself. It’s
   a command that forces the server to parse .php files using PHP5 instead of PHP4.
   Commonly need on 1&1 hosted sites.

 * Thanks esmi, your a life saver.
