Support » Networking WordPress » Upgrading from WPMu 2.9.2 to WP 3.0 with SharDB and multi

  • I am preparing an upgrade from WPMu 2.9.2 to WP 3.0 and I am pretty confident I have all my plugins and themes in order, but I have a question about the multi-database plugin SharDB. Anyone test this out on a WP 3.0 version with multiple netowrks (and by multiple network I mean several different domains with their own subdomain sites running off one install).

I was ready to upgrade, but was told that SharDB may not work with multiple networks and wanted to check hear and see if anyone has and ideas on this one.

For the multi-network setup I am still using David Dean’s Multi-Site plugin for this setup. And it works on a WP 3.0 site I upgraded with a single database, but worried it may break on a setup with multiple databases.

  • I haven’t tried upgrading to WordPress 3.0.

In theory I don’t see why the SharDb plugin wouldn’t work with multi sites since each different multi site domain blog still has its own blog_id in wp_blogs. SharDb uses the blog_id to obtain the ShardDB hash.

Just to blow your mind, if you remove the old multisite (network) plugin, the different sites should be unaffected.

DB-wise for multiple networks, it’s just incrementing the site_id value. As far as the db goes, it sees it as just another blog.

So, there shouldn’t be an issue with SharDB in this regard? Good to know, I guess I am gonna experiment with this upgrade and see what comes of it. I do everything in production, so I’m sure I’ll be back here soon 🙂

    Thank you both.
