Upgrading from 3.5 to 3.9

    I need to upgrade an installation of WP from 3.5.1 to 3.9.1.

    My question is, can this be done via auto updates in the dashboard or should it be done incrementally. If incrementally which version first, and next.

    Thanks, don’t want this site to blow up in my face :).

    I wouldn’t recommend using the 1-click update option for such a large upgrade. Any upgrade more than 2 major versions is likely to have an increased risk of failure. Instead, I would recommend that you carry out a series of smaller manual upgrades. See Upgrading_WordPress_Extended for the full details.

    Thanks Esmi, I kinda auto assumed that it should be a manual upgrade but wasn’t sure in what increments.

    I’ll start a manual upgrade of 3.7 and take it from there.
