Support » Installing WordPress » Upgrading 2.0.4

  • I am in a slight pickle. I have had someone ask me to revamp their site. Turns out he’s running version 2.0.4 WordPress with the then default theme. His database is just over 300MB in size. Any one can recommend the best and hopefully easy way to drag that into the modern world?

    well, you’ll have to do it incrementally
    1st deactivate all plugins
    then begin upgrading

    2.0.4 -> 2.0.11 -> 2.1 – > 2.3 -> 2.5 -> 2.7 -> 2.9.2 -> 3.0.5

    any plugins will need to be searched for a recent release

    Yikes was exactly my reaction when I found out. Would it be possible to get posts out of the database matching the category they’re under and then importing that content into a current release? I’d need to do similar with the users.

    you couldn’t do that with the current database structure

    Ditto with the yikes.

    How about upgrading up to WP 2.3 version where you can export XML, then open up free account and import XML along with images. I suggested because with 300MB in DB, you could the “power import” ability which saved my skin a few times 🙂
