  • Hey all –

    I just upgraded to 1.5 and for some reason in Internet Explorer (go figure) my sidebar (right hander) is broke in half. In other words the top of the sidebar appears where it is supposed to – but the middle has droped out and appears very low…I don’t have a better way to explain this oddity – so maybe a link will do it better

    Again, it appears as it should in FF, IE is the one that breaks – or stretches – it.

    Here’s my CSS:

    I have tried everything but its beyond my limited knowledge.

  • Try changing your #menu declaration to this:

    #menu {
    border-left: dashed 1px #000;
    padding: 0px 0px 10px 0px;
    position: absolute;
    right: 2px;
    top: 20px;
    position: absolute;
    width: 11em;

    This will force IE to wrap around the menu, instead making the menu wrap around the posts.

    m7csat – thanks, it worked … but only for pages that were actually longer than my sidebar. If the pages were shorter then the sidebar extended beyond the page and it looked pretty bad. I’ll have to find a fix that wraps the menu around the posts or page content so it’ll balance itself out.

    The problem I’m having only occurs in IE when the content or posts are longer then the sidebar/menu … what could be causing this?

    What is going on with 1.5’s theme system?!? First of all, why do I have to modify the default theme’s comment.php to affect the theme I actually have activated??? And why do I have to fix my blog’s sidebar constantly for it to appear correctly in IE??? I mean, I have fixed it twice … tested it … only to come back later and see it pushed below my main content again. Why is this happening?

    Also – in my theme folder (which I didn’t delete when I upgraded to Strayhorn) there appeared a new theme “progressive-ink” (which is the name of my blog) … where did this come from??? It appeared after I upgraded …

    Basically the theme system has me beddaffled and is incredibly difficult to modify for cross-browser viewing. I fix it for IE only to have it break again later …

    Some advice … please?

    Well, I just fixed the sidebar. It seems that recentcomments plugin, a user comment that contained a URL, and Internet Explorer could not get along. Why, I haven’t a freaking clue. I deleted the user comment’s URL and the sidebar is happy.

    However, if someone could answer my other two questions (why do I have to modify the default theme’s comment.php to affect the theme I actually have activated // why did the new theme folder [“progressive-ink” (which is the name of my blog)] appear in in wp-content folder?), I’d be very happy.

    Thanks …
