As I stated earlier in this thread …

In My Perfect Internet, those people are relegated to a simple Tripod/Geocities site.

    See the car analogy.

    ——-

As for HOW to upgrade — the codex provides VERY simple instructions.

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Upgrading_WordPress#Detailed_Instructions

You have to be able to follow instructions to do this, Makasha.

whooami . . those are very simple instructions ONLY if you know what you are doing and know your way around phpMyAdmin, FTP, and this rest of the developement garbage that you and I take as every day work. You should be a little less harsh and recognize that not everyone is as smart as you. After all “it takes a village” Not a village idiot!

Makasha . . . if you continue to have problems contact me and i will walk you through the upgrade. (assuming you are in the USA we could do it via phone if you want.

    performance,

I’m entitled to my opinion(s) — and I stand firm in my belief that if someone is unable or unwilling to grasp BASIC Internet technologies (FTP is a wonderful example, and any attempt to compare the complexity of using an ftp client to the complexity of using phpmyadmin is really shortsighted) then they shouldn’t be using this software, or they should be outsourcing **all** the work to someone to someone that does.

There is an implied level of knowledge and ability that goes along with using WordPress. The least of which is the ability to follow the instructions.

Smart has nothing to do with it. I drive. In order to drive, I had to learn. After I learned, I got a driver’s license.

Would you want to be out on the freeway with me if I didn’t know all of the intricacies that go into driving? What if I didn’t know how to slow down?

It’s called a willingness to learn, to read, to try things, to TROUBLESHOOT when something goes wrong or doesn’t work.
I could even argue that there are plenty of dumb people that manage to set up and administer WP just fine.

In fact, you nearly suggest the opposite.

Lastly, your attempted pun wasnt even in context, it doesnt take a village to use WP.

    Lmao! I totally agree with Whooami’s post(s) here… *cough* (NSFW) #13 here… lmao!

And we all know how many cars there are out there on the road that are unregistered, underinsured or worse, uninsured. The cemeteries are chock full of folks who had the right of way. How many people get behind the wheel mentally impaired with drugs or alcohol or both. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

Yeah, the car analogy fits to a T. 🙂

    Brilliant…….!

    So I, (who know nothing) follow the detailed instructions on how to upgrade and this is what I get;

Warning: main(C:\Inetpub\vhosts\scotsheraldry.com\httpdocs\blog/wp-includes/wp-db.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\scotsheraldry.com\httpdocs\blog\wp-settings.php on line 100

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘C:\Inetpub\vhosts\scotsheraldry.com\httpdocs\blog/wp-includes/wp-db.php’ (include_path=’.;./includes;./pear’) in C:\Inetpub\vhosts\scotsheraldry.com\httpdocs\blog\wp-settings.php on line 100

    Suggestions please

    @tignarius
    1. Delete the files recommended in Upgrading WordPress
    2. Just in case, download and unzip the latest distribution from http://wordpress.org/download/
    3. Reupload the files to your host Uploading_WordPress_to_a_remote_host
    4. Then do the upgrade.php step

    Hi Michael

I have just done it again and this time it worked. I did nothing different the second time, so I ask, why did it not work the first time?

It is problems like this that make users reluctant to upgrade I suspect. Michael H. kindly installed 2.1.2 for me twenty days ago which was a couple of days before 2.1.3 was released. I have not dared to even try to do the upgrade until now that I have been messing around with WordPress for a couple of weeks.

I am still trying to install plug-ins to make the site do what I would like it to do. I am having an enormous issue with a coppermine integration plug-in but cannot seem to get any help from here or its author. For me, it is worries like this that make upgrading a challenge to say the least.

FTP may not always be 100% reliable so sometimes it is necessary to redo an upload.

I’ve read that Coppermine integration with wordpress can be quite complex. Maybe another plugin might do the job you need:

    Hi, Whooami.

First of all, I did follow the directions as specified. I deviated from them because they did not work – even the detailed instructions, thats called TROUBLESHOOTING.

Why keep up with posts on a SUPPORT forum if you are gonna be rude? Everyone here should be offering help or asking for it – not insulting people who don’t know everything. And no one knows everything – not even you. If you did, you would have been able to at least point me in the right direction.

For anyone else having a problem upgrading, especially if you are on yahoo, please visit the following link:

The cache folder was causing my problem and it could be yours. I did think it was the .htaccess file because that was the only step I could not complete but following the directions on the link above helped me. I hope it helps you, too.

    Thanks for your help Michael.

    Lmaooooooooo,

I did try to upgrade version before this one 2.1.2. I lost everything. I want to upgrade but upgrade to lose all I have done is just too much of a price to pay.

I have SMF and its childs play to upgrade done it twice, all we have to do is ‘backup’ then disable any new mods, rewrite over all the files with new and its done. Why can’t WP be as easy.

I had WP last year for ‘Pondok’ but my friend did that upgrade – Anyone want to be a friend…:D

    The form is located here:

    and it’s self-explanatory.

    404 😆

For what’s it worth, I started this thread. It’s not a support thread. No-one was invited to ask for support in it. That they have doesnt oblige me to answer politely, does it? Can’t I ignore them?

I answer support questions succinctly and politely. I also expect that people asking for support can follow read and follow directions.

    @ julienne,

thats not a 404, I assure you. It’s getting plenty of traffic. if youre getting one than you are probably behind some proxy, or perhaps an IP that Ive banned for spamming.

whooami, what happened? you used to be one of the nicest, most helpful people here. Lately it seems you tend to just tear people down and are rude to them. You’ve done it to me alone on several threads lately. Just remember that not everyone is the WordPress Wizard you are. Please also take into consideration what you post. Just like in any person-to-person convo, the same saying would apply here…

“Its not what you say, its how you say it.”

You have great advice and help to offer, and you do so very often here. Unfortunately lately you have also been belittling people along with your help.
