 * Hello!
 * Please help. I have been trying to avoid this: upgrading my WP site. So I have
   a 2.8.5 WP version.
 * Well, I finally have made the jump. I downloaded the new version: 3.1.3
 * I have tried to carefully follow the instructions:
    [http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress](http://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress)
 * I deactivated all of my plugins.
 * (BTW, I don’t understand this note:
 * > Upload all new loose files from the root directory of the new version to your
   > existing wordpress root directory.
   > NOTE – you should replace all the old WordPress files with the new ones …..
   > and in the root directory (such as index.php, wp-login.php and so on). Don’t
   > worry – your wp-config.php will be safe.
 * Does this mean you replace the wp-config.php file with the new one?)
 * Anyhow, whenever I try to see my site: [http://choveveitzion.com/](http://choveveitzion.com/)(
   or the dashboard) – now I get this error:
 * > Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting ‘)’ in /home/vol12/xtreemhost.
   > com/xth_7584208/choveveitzion.com/htdocs/wp-includes/link-template.php on line
   > 2295
 * Which I guess is this line:
 *     ```
       function get_dashboard_url( $user_id, $path = '', $scheme = 'admin' ) {
       ```
 * Please advise! I would like to get my site back up!
 * Avrohom
 * No.
 * Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme by renaming your current theme’s folder
   in wp-content/themes using [FTP](http://codex.wordpress.org/FTP_Clients) or whatever
   file management application your host provides.
 * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F)
   by FTP or phpMyAdmin.
 * – re-uploading all files & folders – **except** the wp-content folder – from
   a **fresh** download of WordPress.
 * – re-running the upgrade manually using wp-admin/upgrade.php.
 * Did you follow instructions replace all files and folders except for **wp-content**
   folder and **wp-config.php **file.
 * Sounds like I have a big job ahead of me.
 * (If the wp-config.php file is not replaced — isn’t this page of instructions
   how to upgrade — written misleading?)
 * Yes govpatel.
 * However it seems something went wrong the first time I downloaded the new version
   of WP. I only had the three folders of :
 * Admin
    Content Includes
 * but none of the small files along with these folders. So I downloaded the new
   version of WP again. And this time I saw everything.
 * I had already uploaded my first version. Content and Includes were the right
   size — so I left them alone. But Admin was the wrong size. So I deleted Admin
   and uploaded the new version of Admin along with all the small files (wp-app,
   etc)
 * So I guess esmi is on target that I should try the process all over again.
 * It is not as on your when download a fresh wordpress you will not see wp-config.
   php file in the download as the file is only created when you install wordpress.
 * govpatel — Brilliant! Now why didn’t I see that.
 * Esme, I made some modifications based on your third suggestion:
 * I deleted the
 * wp-includes
 * folder and reuploaded it. And now my site is working.
 * Thank you!
 * BTW, one of the reasons I updated my WP is that I don’t see in the left column
   an option to add a new plugin. But now, even with the update, I still don’t see
   this option. Any tips?
 * Also, I have been using the plugin: cforms II which I like very much. But with
   my current webhost, I don’t get emails when forms are filled out. But with my
   old version (2.8.5) at least I could see the table of Tracking Form Data. But
   after the update, I don’t see this table anymore.
 * I am now updating the plugin to a more recent version. Might this help?
 * Ahhh… Second problem solved…
 * After updating the cforms plugin — now I see the tracking table!
 * Now just what about the “add plugin” option?
