 * I just updated to 3.0.2, and after updating the database, I get the following
   message:
 * “Error 500 – Internal server error
 * An internal server error has occured!
    Please try again later.”
 * How do I correct this?
 * The site is [http://www.c3es.org](http://www.c3es.org). Any help anyone can offer
   is greatly appreciated.

 * We WordPress 3.1-alpha, updated to 3.0.2 and did not display any error but no
   longer open the site in any form. 🙁
 * My website: [http://yo9fah.net/](http://yo9fah.net/) … I had to return to your
   previous version: 3.1-alpha. 🙁

 * pcgrejaldo, the visitor site is working, it is the admin area that is inaccessible.

 * For anyone else having trouble with something like this: the suggestion came
   from a friend ([http://www.stefamedia.ro/](http://www.stefamedia.ro/))!
 * How we did:
 * – I disabled all plug-ins;
    – I updated WordPress; – I reactivated the plugins.
 * Enjoy Yourself ! 😀

 * This may well work, but I can’t get into the Admin area to do it.

 * I see… FTP to your WP installation go to wp-content folder and rename your current
   plugins folder to something else (e.g. plugins.old), then create a new folder
   and rename it to plugins. Try to check if you can access your admin area. If
   you have access, restore your old plugins folder and activate your plugins 1
   by 1 and check which is having an issue or you may want to update your WP if
   it’s not the latest.
 * If this doesn’t work out, backup your database and files especially your wp-config.
   php file and reinstall WordPress.

 * _Thank you!_
 * That worked, finally. I really appreciate your help!

 * Of course, now I tried to update the theme automatically, and now it’s locked
   in maintenance mode (20 minutes so far). It says the update failed, then automatically
   tries to do it again. How do I get it out of maintenance mode?

    FTP to
   your root folder or where you installed WP and look for .maintenance file and
   delete it.

    Thanks. I didn’t
   see any .maintenance file, but WP did finally come out of maintenance mode, so
   I updated the theme manually. The only remaining issues now are: 1: _some_ of
   the pages’ edit pages are still giving me the message: “Error 500 – Internal
   server error
 * An internal server error has occured!
    Please try again later.”
 * It is only some of the pages, though.
 * 2: I have a persistent notice at the top of the admin pages:
    “An automated WordPress
   update has failed to complete – please attempt the update again now.”
 * Any thoughts?
 * Again, I really appreciate all your help. Everything you’ve suggested so far
   has made improvements, so we’re getting there, just not there yet.

 * May have been wrong permissions on FTP server!
    Good luck.

 * 1: It seems it’s either a host or .htaccess directives issue. Try updating permalinks
   to default and check if it still errors. If not, try to change back to the permalink
   structure that you want.
 * 2: This is from [http://codex.wordpress.org/Dashboard_Updates_SubPanel](http://codex.wordpress.org/Dashboard_Updates_SubPanel)
 * **Problem**
    After doing the upgrade, and received WordPress upgraded successfully
   message, but the following message still displays:
 * _An automated WordPress update has failed to complete – please attempt the update
   again now._
 * **Solution**
    Delete the .maintenance file found in the WordPress root/base folder,
   the do the Upgrade again.
 * Which means .maintenance file exists in your WordPress folder. Connecting to
   your root folder should show hidden files (dotfiles) like .htaccess. In case
   you’re doing it from cpanel, make sure Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) checkbox
   is checked.
