I am trying to update to 3.3.2. The auto update didn’t work – error writing to server. So I tried doing a manual update. I followed the instructions on the CODEX Updating WordPress page. The instructions say to delete the wp=includes and wp-admin folders and files before copying the new ones. When I used the FTP application in Dreamweaver I got “An FTP error occurred – cannot remove server folder _vti_cnf”. I tried using FileZilla to delete the folder/files on the remote server and although it looked like it was going through the delete process after it completed all the files and folders were still there.

I’m ready to pull my hair out because my web site hosting company is saying this is a WordPress issue and I need to call them for support. From what I can tell the only support from WordPress are these forums and blogs. So I hope there is someone out there that can help me figure out how to delete the old folders.

  • Have you tried to log in host account and delete them from there.

Thank you for taking the time to try and help me out.

I contacted the company that is hosting the web site which contains the blog and their tech was not able to delete it at their end either. They have advanced the support ticket to hopefully someone who can figure it out.

In the mean time our blog is down. For know I would be ecstatic if I could figure out how to restore the old version (which worked fine) and get our blog back up. I’ve tried copying the old files back and all I get is a white screen when trying to access the blog or the WP admin login screen. I must not have a complete backup of all the original files.
