Upgraded to 2.6.1 after deactivating all plug-ins and following extended upgrade instructions. Double checked all files manually to make certain the files on my domain matched those in the upgrade. Error message is:

Warning: main(../wp-load.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/baringo1/denacrain.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php on line 4

Warning: main(../wp-load.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home/baringo1/denacrain.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php on line 4

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘../wp-load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php/PEAR:/usr/local/share/pear’) in /hsphere/local/home/baringo1/denacrain.com/blog/wp-admin/upgrade.php on line 4

    What should I do now?

Most likely culprit is that you didn’t upload all the files. Make sure you upload the entire 2.6.1 zip contents into your web hosting space.

You were right! I got rid of the downloaded WP update from my desktop and downloaded the whole thing again. Then I used FileZilla to check what was on my domain in comparison with the upgrade. In the root folder I found that half the files were missing! I’m back in business again, and very grateful – thanks!!!
