 * I am having problems trying to upgrade my wordpress site from 2.9.2 to 3.1.
 * Whenever I try, I get this message:
 * Could not create directory: /home/julianab/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-
   3.tmp/wordpress/wp-includes
 * I know that this probably means that I should upgrade manually, but I am not
   very experienced with coding, or websites in general, so I am nervous to do so.
 * I use Lithium hosting in case that is relevant. Please help!

 * Try manually creating the directory it’s looking for here:
 *     ```
       /home/julianab/public_html/wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-3.tmp/wordpress/wp-includes
       ```
 * In other words, create a folder called “upgrade” within wp-content, and then
   the other three folders within that. Be sure to name them exactly as above.
 * Give the automatic upgrade another try after that. If it keeps trying to create
   directories in “upgrade” and is unable to, try creating the “upgrade” directory
   manually, and setting its permissions to something like 766 or 777 temporarily.
   If you are not comfortable doing any of this yourself, you may want to have someone
   do a manual update for you.
 * Good luck!
 * Thanks for getting back to me! I tried making those folders, and it didn’t work.
   It deletes them as soon as I try the upgrade. Sigh. I think I will have to find
   someone to do the manual upgrade for me, since I really have no idea how to.
   But thanks so much!
 * It’s my experience that creating the folders manually rarely (if ever) works.
   This is probably a folder permissions or ownership issue. Delete the manually
   created folders and then try changing the permissions on the wp-content directory
   to 766. If you still have problems, try 767, 775 or 777. Once your uploads are
   working, change the permissions on wp-content back to 755 again and check that
   everything still works OK.
 * If you’re still having problems, contact your hosts and ask them to look into
   a possible folder ownership issue.
 * Good to know, I have never actually tried it. 😉
 * Sorry, how do I change the permissions? From the wp-content, which folder do
   I choose: gallery, plugins, themes, uploads?
 * See the link I gave above. You need to try changing permissions on the wp-content
   folder itself.
 * Tried changing the permissions to all those numbers, still didn’t work. I’ll
   contact my host. Thanks!
