I am brand new at this. I am good about reading instructions but at times have to go after other details that I don’t understand in the instructions. I am in another forum that helps me tremendously but I think I have goofed.

I have two self-hosted blogs. Both were set up through my c panel. The second one: I just set up. No posts. But I needed to upgrade. I attempted on this one. Backed up my database. Examined all the files. Mistake #1 – in deleting and uploading I went through my FTP program on my computer not the cPanel.

I thought everything was fine. Don’t think it is. A friend said doesn’t exist even though it does on my computer.

When I went to change my header (been working on this for 4 days)it said it did not clear security. Using Kubrick because of the custom header option. Went to Presentations>Themes>Custom Header

  • Just went to and got the following messages: Must have really goofed this time. Can I just wipe out this through the cPanel and start over?

Warning: require(./wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/ebooksby/public_html/ on line 4

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘./wp-blog-header.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/ebooksby/public_html/ on line 4

youre over-reacting 🙂 The error you see is telling you that you need to upload wp-blog-header.php

    its not there.

grab the zip, unpack it, use your trusty ftp client and upload that file.

chances are you missed others by the way, but you wont know until that one is there.

Thanks, off to try, will let you know.

    Well, I’m back. Next error:
The requested URL /wp-admin/upgrade.php does not exist.

When I first began, I put my first blog on .com is it now after a friend transferred it to my hosting. I haven’t touched that one but it needs to be upgraded.

If I go to and type my password and user name, both of my blogs show up. Are they supposed to do that?

Because I had installed directly in to that subdirectory (this is a subdirectory but the browser points directly to it), there were more folders and files under public_html/therapistwithbipolar than were listed on the upgrade. I left them alone.

There were also files in the upgrade that weren’t in the blog previously, I just uploading them.

Any suggestions as to what next?

yeap .. thats another missing file.

you are confusing issues.. your blog or blogs hosted on have nothing to do with blogs that you can access via FTP.

If you see them there, that just means that your account is still active.

Now, back to the file thing .. you havent uploaded all of the files.

Back to the zip, unpack it, notice that there are directories created, and files within those directories, and in some cases, even more directories.

You need to upload the files the same way they are in the zip — maintaining the structure of those directories. Without doing that, any install attmept is going to end in futility.

Thanks you for your help. Can I just overwrite everything that I did last night. If it was a folder I uploaded it complete. If it was a file, I uploaded about ten at a time going down the line. Must have goofed somehow.
