Log in to your WordPress Dashboard. On the left handside you will see a tab that says updates. Click that button. There you will see something that says “You are running Version 3.8.3 click UPDATE to 3.9”

If database changes are required WP will prompt you to do so. Just follow the instructions. Should take seconds to complete.

    hi many thanks

guess that i will have to do it manually – since i have no simple
ftp acess to the server but only a sftp (due to the security concearns of my serveradmin.

you should contact your web host.

will try to get ahead with the manual way – but there i need to know if

    a. a copy of the files will be enough or
    b. ther are any db-changes that need to be “re-worked” during the upgrade-process.

    what do you say
    love to hear from you

Unfortunately I don’t have an answer for this problem. Maybe go to this link and hopefully that may help.

Also have you tried contacting your web host for help with this?

This happens when your host is set up not to allow FTP (or SFTP, yes they both work) via PHP. That’s okay. You just have to upgrade manually, sorry :/

I would suggest you work with your host to see what info it needs that you don’t have.
