When trying to update WordPress from 2.8.4 to 3.3.2 the update failed with a message that the version of PHP installed, 4.4.9 was not suitable. It requested upgrading to 5.2.4. However searching the plugins revealed that no PHP appeared to be present. Is it really necessary? If so, how do we get it? I cannot find version 5.2.4 listed. All this is on my wife’s computer. On my own computer, which was easy to upgrade to 3.3.2, I have no PHP plugin. It does not seem to be necessary.

The website where the update failed is kayebarr.com.au.

It’s necessary, and you must ask your webhosts about it. It’s not a plugin you can install.

Are you saying that my computer, which did update successfully to WordPress 3.3.2, does have PHP installed, and the version of PHP must be current?

Also, is PHP not really a plugin, and hence not visible to me on the plugin list?

Are you running a web server on your computer? If not, then it’s the web host which is running PHP, not your computers.

PHP is not a plugin. It’s installed on web servers and converts PHP code to HTML which is served to web browsers.
