http://rompandstomp.org/wp-admin now generates this error text:

Warning: call_user_func_array() expects parameter 1 to be a valid callback, function ‘wp_maybe_load_embeds’ not found or invalid function name in /homepages/45/d90942178/htdocs/rompandstomp/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 525

Fatal error: Class ‘WP_Rewrite’ not found in /homepages/45/d90942178/htdocs/rompandstomp/wp-settings.php on line 272

    I re-started the automatic upgrade from http://rompandstomp.org/wp-content/upgrade/wordpress-4.4.2-new-bundled2/wordpress/readme.html
    Which gives this error text:

“You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.”

I don’t want to reinstall, I want to upgrade and not lose 3 years of data.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Mark

  • Hi Mark,

Take a look at this WordPress Codex page:

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress

In particular, the section titled Manual Update. That’s more than likely what’s going to get you back up and running.

P.S., Did you backup your site and database before your original update attempt?

Note that I Googled around for, “You appear to have already installed WordPress. To reinstall please clear your old database tables first.” and found this link:

    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-do-i-clear-old-database-tables-please-help

    And a comment there stating:

“@tsdesignrelated: Just open your wp-config.php file and find the table prefix…it will be about 2/3 of the way down and it will probably be wp_

“Just change that prefix to something different, like wp1_ and save. Then visit your blog url and you should be able to install.”

But, I have no idea what that means when it comes to preserving your three years worth of data.

It seems the core files of your installation are not totally uptodate. That’s why WordPress can’t find some class (WP_Rewrite,…)

My advice: try to upload the WordPress files to your existing WordPress installation.
Don’t delete anything just upload files in the last WordPress package you can get on https://wordpress.org/download/

    Thank You, Everyone!
The solution turned out to be the “Manual update” procedure at
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Updating_WordPress
A modest pain in the patoot, but that did the trick. Everything on the blog is there, but as suggested, I’ll be making MUCH more frequent backups 😉
