Support » Plugin: Store Locator Plus® for WordPress » Upgrade difficulties and rip off

  • Every time our client upgraded we had problems with styling, layout etc. Latest major update killed this plugin off for us though. Any purchased add-ons were no longer relevant and updated versions could be bought for a ‘discount’ albeit at an increased pre-discount price than we had previously paid. Probably would have ended up paying around the same again…. Why on earth would we want to pay for something that we’ve already paid for and why would you expect your customers to do that?
Feeling ripped off!!! Money grabbing and not even worth the money to be honest.

Sorry you feel that way. The product you originally purchased still functions and does not require an upgrade to remain relevant. It will not cease to function and you can use it forever in the current state.

Upgrading to version 4 of the base plugin is free and remains a fully functional store locator solution.

Upgrading the add-on packs is a marginal fee, $12.50 to get the latest version which has far more capabilities that the version 3 add-on packs. This is not required unless you decide to upgrade the site to version 4 of the base plugin.

If you do not need/want the new features then there is no need to upgrade. For those that do want the new features $12.50 is a small contribution to the continued development effort for the add-on packs.

Considering this is the only time there has been a paid upgrade in 3 years, many customers find it a great value. Especially considering the list of new features and add-on packs that were not possible to build on the version 3 architecture.

I don’t see how you consider this “money grabbing” when what you purchased functions exactly the way as it did the day your purchased. You are not required to upgrade. Seems more like wanting a shiny new 2014 car for free because you purchased the 2013 model. Though, unlike a new car, with my add-on packs the people that purchased a 2011 model got the 2012 and 2013 model at no charge. The 2014 model is expected to provide free upgrades to the new models for years to come.
