Support » Theme: Responsive » Upgrade caused all kinds of issues

  • I manage websites for million dollar research labs (yeah, why they use WordPress with free themes is beyond me). Unfortunately, upgrading to the change that the new company made caused issues for the sites that used this theme. First: The new theme forced it’s default home page upon the site even though it wasn’t checked. Second: Even though the site was changed to ‘use posts’, it created a new page entitled “posts” and changed the default to use that static page.

If the company can’t check the code & install to ensure that it will not alter the look & feel of the home page, I can’t advise clients to purchase the pro option. I would be extremely cautious when dealing with this template. Double check every page when upgrading to ensure nothing is lost.

As a side note, it’s really annoying that the theme tells the user that the responsive add on plugin is necessary. The plugin doesn’t add a lot of functionality and it isn’t necessary. Unfortunately, there was no link to the information about the plugin, just a link to install it. If you’re going to put that big warning in front of users the least you could do is link to relevant information.

As per the theme developer’s request, please post in the theme’s dedicated forum:

Please open a topic on the CyberChimps forum.

I would like to discuss this further and see if we can improve on these issues.

I can give you some history on the plugin. The functionality in the plugin was once part of the theme. This functionality is considered as plugin territory and had to be removed from the theme. So that people do not loose their content when they update we added a notification box. I think the idea about adding a bit more info makes sense.

We’re looking into the first problem but it would be good to know what version you upgraded from when you respond in our forums?

The second problem is strange as our theme does not have the ability to create pages

The final sidenote as Ulrich mentioned we have had to move the functionality out of the theme on WordPress’ request. The text states that we recommend to use the plugin and it is certainly not necessary. If you’re not interested in its functionality you just have to click on the dismiss button and it should not bother you again. We will definitely look at improving it on the information front

    Thank you
