• So I was using Updraft Plus with Dropbox and it all worked nicely, the only ‘problem’ was Dropbox offered only 2gig free, but Google Drive offers 15gig for free, so I thought lets give it a try, and it worked, once or twice, then error after error, I’m not even going to bother listing them there were so many.

What I will admit to doing just before Google Drive stopped working with Updraft was to create an .htaccess file at the recommendation of a WordPress article on security somewhere, and to put it in the WP-Content directory. That, and the .htaccess file in the public_HTML directory some other code. I think this prevented Updraft from fetching tokens from Google and just generally doing it’s thing. Dropbox on the other hand still worked after I added the stuff to .htaccess

So I deleted everything that I’d added to .htaccess, and it still would not sync to Google Drive. I deleted and re-installed Updraft, cleared my browser cache and cookies, tried another Google account, create new ID after ID, new secret codes, the works. At one point it successfully obtained token and uploaded something after Updraft successfully zipped everything, then stopped, error, retrying, error…….

Went back to Dropbox, worked like a charm. So I think DB will have to do until my site gets bigger.

What I can also mention is there are apparently some latency problems between Google and South Africa, my current location. When in my Google Developers Console it frequently stalled when trying to create API’s, credentials etc….facecrack loads fine, unfortunately.

You don’t suppose this could be the problem? or at least part of it? or maybe it’s Google themselves! My site is also hosted in South Africa, and works quite well, so the problem is not with my host, I hope.
