  • Okay, so im using a beta from 1-5-05 say I want to update to 1-10-05?

Do I just overwrite the files or do I have to backup the database and do a fresh install then add the database back in mysql? Just wondering? The latter way seems tedious.

  • Normally, you can just delete all the files from the old nightly and upload the new nightly files, then run /wp-admin/upgrade.php. Just don’t delete/overwrite any themes you’ve added (or modified, if you’ve played with the Classic or Default themes in 1.5). Personally, I just upload everything except the /wp-content folder every night; I only delete the previous version’s files if the new version doesn’t include them anymore.

I’ve started posting exactly which files change between nightly versions at http://codex.wordpress.org/Changelog/1.5 – if you’ve done a lot of modifying you might only want to replace the files that have changed.

Of course, always backup your database first 🙂

thanks. this helps alot. Im hoping to solve the trackback problem im having my just updating. My trackbacks are not working at all.
