Support » Fixing WordPress » Updating WP Pages offline (using MAMP) then importing them to my online WP Blog

  • The import tool in wordpress just says “pages already exists”. I can’t get WP to update the pages via importing.

(I develop offline, because it’s much faster). I don’t want to edit all of these pages online.

Try using an FTP or SFTP client to manually upload the new files.

    Thank you James,

So the wp import feature doesn’t “update” existing pages?

Are you talking about template files or page/post content?

    Hi James,

I’m talking about pages that I’m creating and editing offline with MAMP.

I then export them from my offline WP and upload them to my online WP.

    Page Names:

    Mangement Team

I created these pages, when I make changes to the text on those pages, the import feature doesn’t update the content in the online pages. It does update the Meta Tags, etc. Just not the viewable text.

That’s normal behavior. You can’t “upload” pages, and the importer won’t replace existing pages. Why not create/edit the page on the site? You can work with it as a draft without publishing it.

    Hello James,

My website was up and running nicely ( but today all the pages and importantly, the shop function, do not appear but are still safe in the backend WordPress pages creation sections.

    Any ideas please?

Many thanks, trying not to panic here!
