Updating WP beginning with update of theme

    Hi, I am trying to update my wordpress and theme and was going to switch to Twenty Fourteen temporarily for the update. But when I tried to install I got this message:

    Downloading install package from https://downloads.wordpress.org/theme/twentyfourteen.1.7.zip…

    Download failed. SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK. Details: error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

    I then tried another theme and got the same message.

    I contacted my host but they are looking into it and seem maybe not sure what to do so thought I would post here.

    Have you checked this thread?

    I believe Dion Hulse (post #20) gives a working solution that may help you, but it does appear to be a recurring issue.

    Hi Theme Sumo,

    Thanks so much for your response. I had not seen that thread. But I cannot say I really understand it – I am a little less experienced than those posting.

    I read this:

    Replacing the current wp-includes/certificates/ca-bundle.crt with the one from core did the trick for me as well.

    but have no idea how to do that.

    I was a little worried about updating from 3.4.1 to the current version which is why I was going to switch themes but maybe I should (or can) just update without switching?
