• I finally got up the guts to update my wordpress from 3 years ago. I followed the instructions. When I got to the part of moving the new “wp-includes” into my site, I got stuck. My question is this. Is there a way to move all the files at once, or do I need to move each file individually? Please help if you can.

    Thank you!!!

  • I don’t have experience with wp-includes in particular, but I think I can help with moving files around.

The best way to move a bunch of files at once is through FTP. It’s easier, just a few clicks, and this way you won’t mess up the file structure.

You can set up an FTP user through your web host.
Then use an FTP program like FileZilla to transfer a whole file structure at once rather then one file at a time.

    Hope this helps 🙂

Yes, FTP is it – but make sure you have made a full backup of your site before you start doing stuff like this :).

Thanks guys. Just to be totally clear… Once I set up the FTP and upload the files to it, I should be able to move the uploaded files to the new folder with ease? Like a drag and drop?

    Yes!
Like WPyogi said. I always make a backup through ftp of my entire site before doing a big move like this.

There are several FTP softwares outthere, but I know with Filezilla you can drag and drop entire folder structures…

Check out an introductory video on youtube for a quick FTP/Filezilla rundown and you’ll be a pro in no time.
