• Hi,

I have version 4.4.5 and would like to update (I don’t usually come to this site to check for updates since I would use WP’s update feature). However, I am running into a few issues:
    1. My dashboard says WordPress is up to date! So it doesn’t appear to know there are newer versions out there.
    2. This means, I have to likely update manually. I do not see anything about this process at the Installation documentation(https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress) on this site.

I was wondering if someone could kindly point me to the proper place that explains how to update manually, or if there is a way to fix 4.4.5 to allow it to automatically update.

    Thanks!

  • The instructions for a manual update/upgrade can be found here: Updating WordPress. It’s worth reading all the way through first. There are a couple of important tips regarding wp-config.php and /wp-content directory that you won’t want to overlook.

As always, take a complete backup first just in case. 🙂

Thanks! I have bookmarked that site.

Do you know how I can possibly fix the issue where WordPress say it is up to date and won’t progress further? I’d like to fix and use the one click updating, if possible.

Should I make a new thread for this problem?

    Thanks.

Sometimes a plugin or a theme might cause an error in the version wordpress reports. You might try temporarily disabling your plugins and see if the message changes. If not, temporarily switch to the default wordpress theme and see if that does it. If that doesn’t work, and wordpress still reports the wrong version as being up to date after doing a manual update, you may want to go ahead and start a new topic.

    Hi again,

I disabled a bunch of plugins and I still can’t see any updates. Though, after I disabled the wordpress w3 caching, I saw it had 3 updates and when I went to the updates page, only 2 were plugins but then it all vanished! I think the other one was WordPress itself but… this then led me to this thought: I remembered I have APC installed. I think this is likely causing my issue. So I’m going to tinker around a bit with this and if I keep running into issues, I’ll make a new post.

Thanks a lot for your detailed and prompt help, much appreciated 🙂

Well, I got the site updated. I had to manually update it. Even removed all the plugins and used a basic theme. Something appears to be broken underneath and I will be forced to update manually each time. Plugins don’t seem to want to update either but I can’t tell what ones need to update without manually searching for each one. But, at least I am 4.6.1 now.

EDIT: I managed to modify some obscure files and it seemed to have fixed my issue. /sigh
