Updating to Elementor v. 3.26 and later causing critical error
-
Hello,
I have been attempting to update the Elementor plugin on my site ever since v.3.26.0 was released on 16 December. The plugin is now up to v. 3.26.5. Each attempt causes a critical error on my site. When opening my site on an incognito page, there appears only a white page with the message ‘there is a critical error on this site’. I then have to revert. I remember the same thing happening when v. 3.24 was released. How can I resolve this? Thank you.

Hi, same problem here, since 3.26.(any) straight into critical error. No special plugins or so on the site. It must be some problem within elementor itself, I will wait for some response but you are not alone.
Hi @clarion99
Thank you for your support. I think for me the problem seems to be linked to my ShopLentor Pro plugin. The Elementor plugin update warns of a compatibility issue with this plugin saying that the ShopLentor Pro plugin has been tested only up to Elementor v. 3.22.1. Also, compatibility with my theme (VanTam DeBebe) is unknown. Something similiar occurred with Elementor v. 3.24 when it was released. It seems that Elementor is always in a rush to get these updates out even though they must know that other major plugins may not yet be compatible. If I ever manage to update Elementor to v. 3.26, I am hoping that it fixes the issue I have where a dropdown menu on my home page does not function. This appears to be one of the fixes in the long list of fixes for that version.
Fair enough, but I dont have any unknown plugins, theme is hello elementor (more elementor friendly theme is not out there) and woocommerce and some standard other stuff. Will see, maybe suddenly they fix it, but for now I am starying with 3.25.10
Thank you, yes I’ve tried rolling back Elementor but I get a fatal error when I try to do so which I can’t seem to fix by altering the htaccesss. I’ve had this happen so many times in the past which is why I’ve switched to Breakdance but this time I’m completely at a loss. I inherited this website and the client doesn’t wish to change it at all so I’m stuck.
Hi there,
Thanks for contacting us and hope you are doing well and having a great day.
To rule out the possibility of a plugin or theme conflict, please deactivate all your plugins (besides Elementor). If it solves the issue reactivate them one by one to find the culprit. If it didn’t help, switch your theme (temporarily) to a default WP theme such as Twenty Nineteen and see if it makes any difference.
Also, this could happen due to our Elementor performance experiments you can try to deactivate them. To deactivate them you can go to Elementor > settings > features
Performance features currently in the experimental stage are:
- Element Caching – Elements caching reduces loading times by serving up a copy of an element instead of rendering it fresh every time the page is loaded. When active, Elementor will determine which elements can benefit from static loading – but you can override this.
- Inline Font Icons – This experiment renders icons as SVGs without loading the Font-Awesome and eicons libraries. Since SVGs are vector-based images which are rendered using the browser’s engine, they do not increase server requests which improves performance
I am looking forward to hearing back from you soon.
Kind regards,
Hello @miloss84
Thank you for your help and advice. It appears to be theme incompatibility. I am using Vantam DeBebe (child), so I guess I will have to wait for an update there. I don’t like the look of my site with the Twenty Seventeen (the one backup I have on my dashboard for testing) or Twenty Nineteen theme. I guess I am just used to the one I’ve been using.
Regards,
Julie
Hello @miloss84
I am still having this same issue. I have been attempting to update the Elementor plugin ever since Elementor version 3.26 came out, and now it’s on version 3.27.2. The same situation occurs when attempting to update Elementor Pro. When I attempt to update and then check on an incognito page, I see the message “redbridgequilts.com does not support a secure server” and when I continue to proceed to the site I see the message “there has been a critical error on this site”. I am afraid that my site is vulnerable to attack because these plugins are not yet updated. A plugin compatibility test that I performed a week ago showed that there is a conflict with the theme. I have tried switching to Twenty Nineteen and Twenty Seventeen, but the site does not look good with the print overwriting itself. Without changing to another theme, how long can I go without updating these two plugins?
Also, I have only just noticed that the Elementor Pro plugin is set to “auto updates enabled”. I never had it set that way, and it will not allow me to disable the auto updates. Therefore, my site is sending me two or three emails per day telling me that the update for this plugin has failed. What can I do about all this?
Thank you.
I am still having a conflict with the Elementor/Elementor Pro plugin and my VanTam DeBebe Child theme which is causing a “critical error” on my site. In order to update the Elementor plugins to their latest versions, I temporarily switched to the Hello Elementor theme, which obviously does not have all the VanTam elements. I have a notification that “Vamtam Elementor Integration” requires an Elementor-based VamTam theme to be activated in order to work.” However, when I switch back to the VanTam DeBebe Child theme, the critical error message returns on a blank page and my site is not accessible. I am currently running Elementor v. 3.27.4 and Elementor Pro v. 3.27.3.
I contacted WP Engine support. They checked the error logs. This is their response:
“Yeah it looks like the error logs is spamming this
Declaration of VamtamElementor\\Widgets\\TestimonialCarousel\\Vamtam_Testimonial_Carousel::get_script_depends() must be compatible with ElementorPro\\Modules\\Carousel\\Widgets\\Testimonial_Carousel::get_script_depends(): array in /nas/content/live/rbq/wp-content/plugins/vamtam-elementor-integration-debebe/includes/widgets/testimonial-carousel.php on line 36
there is a conflict with the Vamtam and the elementor plugin. I believe it is best to contact the plugin provider on this one as it looks like there’s an incompatibility with it and elementor base on the error log.”
What can be done now? Thank you very much for your help.
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you for your query.
Are you still facing this issue on your end?Hello @sabreu
Yes, I am still having the conflict issue between Elementor and the VanTam DeBebe child theme. It causes a critical error on the site. I have been using the Elementor Hello theme to get around this, but it doesn’t have the features/elements of the DeBebe theme which I liked. Some things don’t work the same, and some don’t work at all. Elementor says to contact VanTam, and VanTam just gives the info for the latest DeBebe version. The fellow who set up the site for me made some customizations to the Child theme, but he can’t find his file with that information.
Thank you for reaching out.
I understand you’re experiencing issues while using a third-party theme with Elementor. Please note that we’re unable to modify Elementor to accommodate the specific behavior of individual themes. With hundreds of themes available that are fully compatible with Elementor, it’s ultimately the responsibility of the theme developer to ensure their product works correctly with our plugin.
Thank you for choosing Elementor
Hello @sve01
My issue has been resolved. A developer applied two main fixes to the DeBebe theme to make it compatible with Elementor, and all seems to be working again now.
Thank you,
Julie
