I have tried to follow the Codex info on updating to 3.6 but I haven’t been able to get the job done. I am so confused now about it that I’m not certain what steps I’ve taken. wp-admin.install (not sure if I have listed it correctly) was not available in the .tar download; so, I opened wp-config-.php in my browser but when I tried to save it, “web archive” was added as an extension. So I opened “wp-config-sample.php in my browser but could not save that either.

I would like further help and suggestions on updating to 3.6 or should I just forget it?

    Thanks for your help.

  • Is there a reason why you are updating manually and not automatically from the dashboard of your site?

You should be able to just login to your site: http://yoursite.com/wp-admin and then go to Dashboard ->Updates and click on a button that will update automatically. It’s mostly painless that way 🙂

michelles, that is what I do – in Dashboard appears:
    “WordPress Updates
Last checked on August 9, 2013 at 12:34 pm. Check Again
Important: before updating, please back up your database and files. For help with updates, visit the Updating WordPress Codex page.
An updated version of WordPress is available.
While your site is being updated, it will be in maintenance mode. As soon as your updates are complete, your site will return to normal.
    Plugins

    Themes
Your themes are all up to date.”

At the bottom right is a button: “Get Version 3.6” when pressed, it takes me to a “Word Press Blog” about 3.6 availability. It also has a button “Update to 3.6” and a button again “Get Version 3.6” which takes me back to the previous page about 3.6.

I am not being updated. Always at the top is a bar with the message “WordPress 3.6 is available! Please update now.”

I seem to be in a loop without being updated.
