  • I have attempted to change the header image in the editor section but there is no update button at the bottom to save my changes. This has never happened before. The .htaccess file permissions have been set at 666 but still no changes. I even set them at 777 and nothing happened. What’s UP?

  • I don’t think the .htaccess file has anything to do with modifying your header image. You should put permisisons back to 644 on .htaccess.

If you are editing a themes style.css file or a header.php file from the WordPress built in editor, then that is the file you need to make temporarily writable in order to save the changes.

On all other installations of WP, I have always had an update button at the bottom of the window for any page I wanted to edit. This is the first time I have not seen a button there.

Maybe you have previously left entire theme folders or files world writable by mistake.

Open ftp client, find the file you want to edit, chmod it to a writable state (666 at least), visit the file in the WordPress editor and see if the button is now there.

That did it. I changed permission on the files I wanted to edit from a 644 to a 666.

Glad it worked for you. Don’t forget to change the permissions back when you get done editing.
