    Hello,

I got a mail few weeks back stating that i am using an older version of the Stripe Plugin (9.2.0) for transactions in my website. I want to update the Stripe Plugin however, the latest version of Stripe only supports WooCommerce 9.8 and above. Mine’s woocommerce version is 7.6.1, but it is heavily modified to work for our needs.

Given this setup, is there any possible workaround or safe method to update the Stripe plugin without breaking compatibility?

  • Hi @sudhev,

I understand your concern about updating the Stripe plugin while maintaining your heavily customized WooCommerce 7.6.1 setup. This is indeed a challenging situation that requires careful consideration.

I’m afraid there isn’t a safe workaround to use the latest Stripe plugin with WooCommerce 7.6.1, as the version requirements exist for important compatibility and security reasons. The newer Stripe versions require WooCommerce 9.8+ because they rely on updated core functionality and security features.

    Here are your main options:

Option 1: Update WooCommerce (Recommended but Complex)

    • Test your customizations thoroughly on a staging site first
    • You’ll need to ensure all your custom code is compatible with WooCommerce 9.8+
    • This is the safest long-term solution for security and continued Stripe support

Option 2: Given the complexity of your customized setup, I’d strongly recommend consulting with a WooCommerce expert who can assess your specific customizations and provide a migration strategy. You can find qualified developers on WooExperts and Codeable.io.

Important Note: Staying on the older Stripe plugin version may result in security vulnerabilities and eventual loss of payment functionality, as Stripe phases out support for older integrations.

I hope that helps. Let us know if you need anything else.

The mail stated that the plugin should be updated within 15th October. After this date, does the version (9.2.0) that I am currently using plugin stops working? I am slowly started to updating the custom codes and functions to make it compatible with the Woocommerce 10+ and the Latest version of Stripe Plugin.

    Hi @sudhev,

Most likely, no – it won’t immediately stop working. However, here’s what typically happens:

    • Deprecated versions continue to function but lose official support
    • Security updates cease, making your site vulnerable
    • New Stripe features won’t be available
    • Future Stripe API changes might eventually break functionality
    • You may face PCI compliance issues if security vulnerabilities are discovered

The deadline is usually about ending support rather than forcibly disabling the plugin. However it may start breaking functionality or may not work with stripe features.

Thank you for the quick reply and for the assurance. I will be making the arrangements for fasten the process and finishing the updates by end of this month. Hopefully it runs till the end without any complications.

Again thank you for the assistance. One more thing, if you can tell if there’s any major changes implemented in the 9.9.1 version from the version that I am using (9.2.0), I can refer them in the development process. Thanks

    Hi @sudhev,
