When I go to update all in one seo plugin, it triggers the website to enter an infinite maintence loop, I have to call hosting to upate the plugins for me to clear the maintenance block!!!

Normally this plugin is pretty much a snore fest but today its wrecking havoc all over all the sites i maintain websites! UGH!

There was an issue to day where the update servers for WordPress.org had a delay with plugin updates… That may be causing this. Try deactivating and deactivating the plugin. If that doesn’t help, try deleting the plugin and reinstalling it.

The maintenance mode is a WordPress core thing. Basically, when an upgrade starts, it creates a .maintenance file on the server which temporarily disables the site. That file is deleted when the upgrade is complete.

If your site is having general timeouts during the upgrade or something like that (if the upgrade takes too long, for example), then the site will be “stuck” in maintenance mode, but only for 10 minutes. See, the .maintenance file contains a time in it, and at that time, WordPress will automatically ignore the file instead of staying in maintenance mode.

If you have this happen and want to clear it immediately, simply access your site via your hosting file system panel or via FTP or SSH, and delete the .maintenance file.

Note that no specific plugin can “trigger” this to happen, really. It’s just a timeout issue, generally.
