• I have several old themes that have “theme” on the name, like on the link.
I’m currently trying to update on the theme directory some of it but it does not validate because it shouldn’t have “theme” on it.
I uploaded the theme with the correct name “pretty” instead of “pretty-theme” but it created a new theme entry instead of updating my current theme.
Any HELP out there for my problem?

    thanks!

If you will upload the same theme by changing the folder name and it’s already there then it will update and will create a new theme there. So you are not doing it in the right way just have to follow this guide I sent you.

    Thanks

Thanks for the tip, but I’m talking about updating the theme name to the theme directory. You can’t upload a theme with the name “theme” on it… but you were able to do that 7 years ago.

Do you need this name ‘pretty-theme’?

Wait a minute. Are you the theme author trying to update your theme in the WP repository? If so please ask for assistance in the #themereview channel at Slack.

    Hi,

Or e-mail the review team via themes at wordpress dot org, if you don’t have Slack.

I wonder if they approve your request because your theme is already installed on hundreds of websites and it will be impossible to auto update those websites as well, because your theme changed name.

But I’m almost certaim you can change the theme name in file style.css but just don’t change the theme folder name (because of what I’ve mentioned above). But first do a test on your local install and if theme isn’t deactivated after this stylesheet name change, there will be no problem.
